Student Profile : Amanda Wacker
Amanda Wacker is a double major in finance and marketing, with a minor in Spanish, and plans to graduate in May 2012. While at the University of Arizona, she won many scholarships, including the Wildcat Excellence Scholarship. Wacker is currently Chair of the Eller Board of Honor and Integrity and has been active in numerous campus organizations.
One of the many things Wacker values about Eller College is that “Eller teaches its students valuable lessons in teamwork and networking, taking advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, and becoming a well-rounded and involved individual. ”
“Students interested in the finance program should not be afraid of the challenge Finance presents. While the coursework at the beginning can be difficult, once you learn the basics, it is such a rewarding and interesting subject to study,” recommends Wacker.
Wacker recently accepted a position as a Global Investment Research Analyst with Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City, Utah. She will be in charge of research for one industry and will propose investment recommendations in that industry. Wacker expects to use her skills in accounting, valuation, financial modeling and writing.
“This position will challenge me and give me the opportunity to continue to learn,” said Wacker. “It is a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and network and to learn from successful people,” she said.
Wacker feels the position will open many doors in the financial services industry and will set her up to be successful in future jobs. “It will allow me to obtain the knowledge and discipline necessary to be successful in whatever I decide to do.”
